Time-Resolved Stokes Polarization Analysis of Single Photon Emitters in Hexagonal Boron Nitride<\/span> <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t

Our team has demonstrated a powerful new method to study single-photon emitters in solid-state materials, paving the way for advances in secure quantum communication. Using the Rotating Quarter-Wave Plate (RQWP) technique, we performed the first dynamic polarization analysis of quantum emitters in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN). By tracking how single photons evolve in polarization over time, we uncovered complex dynamics that were previously inaccessible. These insights are highly relevant for quantum key distribution (QKD), where the polarization state of individual photons is used to encode and transmit information securely. Understanding and controlling polarization behavior at this level is critical for minimizing errors and improving the performance of quantum communication systems. Secure Quantum Key Distribution Using a Room-Temperature Quantum Emitter<\/span> <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t

Our team has demonstrated room-temperature quantum key distribution (QKD) using single-photon emitters in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN), marking a significant step toward practical quantum networks. By implementing the B92 protocol, we achieved a sifted (secure) key rate of 17.5 (7) kbps at a 40 MHz polarization encoding rate \u2014 one of the highest reported for a room-temperature solid-state single-photon source. This achievement underscores the potential of hBN defects to deliver compact, cost-effective quantum communication systems without the need for cryogenic environment.
